Homes for Rent for Retirees

When you’ve lived in the same house for over 30 years and you finally retire from that job where you’ve been employed as long as you can remember, odds are that you probably want to experience some of the world. However, you still feel tied down because you don’t have the savings to make that possible. One possibility does exist, however, to make your retiree dreams come true: selling your house and taking the proceeds to pay for your travel as well as for rent payment for one of the many homes for rent on the market.

Why consider homes for rent?

Homes for rent can offer you the same lifestyle you’re used to without the mortgage. You’ll still be able to enjoy plenty of space, a backyard, and lots of privacy with a home for rent, but without the headache of huge repair bills (i.e. plumbing, roof, air conditioner repairs). Your other option of moving into an apartment is really not an option at all, since after 30 years of living in a house, it would almost be traumatic moving into such a small, cramped living space with limited privacy. Not to mention how it could possibly disrupt your sleep night after night with neighbors so close by.

Another benefit of homes for rent is that it provides space for any guests (i.e. the grandkids) that might pop on over. Even though you might choose a smaller house to rent than your previous home, it should still offer plenty of room for that unexpected visitor. With an apartment, however, you’ll be lucky if you can find a three-bedroom place that would meet your needs. Otherwise, your guests would probably end up sleeping in the den or living room with the normal two-bedroom rental.

Your not locked into one locationUnlike a home that you own, homes for rent don’t lock you into one location, year after year. Most lease agreements have a one to three year lease term, and then month-to-month thereafter. That means if you want to pick up again and change location, it’s not problem. Simply give the landlord adequate notice and you’re off to finding your newest rental home
