Homes for Rent – a Real Option for the College Student

College is a great time to focus on career choices and really get a feel of the world as an independent person, away from old friends, family and influences. Most college students opt to live in a college-type of environment, where they can meet new friends and socialize. Either they move into a college dormitory, fraternity or sorority, or even into a nearby apartment. A less common option, but just as viable, is the option of choosing to live in one of the homes for rent around a college campus.

Why homes for rent?
Homes for rent offer the college student a bit of privacy, and a bit more sanity than the standard college dormitory. Imagine trying to study for your exams when everyone else is partying in the hallways, or blasting music in their rooms until 2:00 am. You’ll find that you won’t accomplish much in the way of studying and you’ll probably have to spend half of your time in the college library.
With a home for rent, you’ll be able to take the time to properly study for your exams, day or night, without the constant noise and disturbances. If the property has a nice backyard area, you’ll even be able to enjoy studying outside. If you want to invite a few classmates over to study, you’ll have the peace and quiet that’s needed to concentrate.

Short-term leases
Similar to apartments, homes for rent are available for short-term lease. Usually, rental contracts are for a period of one year to three years, and month to month after that. Since it normally takes four to five years to graduate, a three-year rental contract is extremely realistic and viable. Security deposits are also similar to apartments – generally one month’s rent.

Where to find a rental home?
Rental homes are easier to find that you might think. Lots of online property-listing sites advertise rental homes on the market. Simply conduct a search of your geographic area and a list of properties should appear. Most sites provide photos and complete descriptions so that you don’t even have to take the time to see the property if it doesn’t look suitable. The best part of these online sites is that most provide the listings at no charge. Besides the Internet, local classified newspapers are another good source for finding rentals.
